Lake Champlain PHRF Spring Meeting
March 28, 2007 Minutes


Attending: Gene, Walt, John, Kjell, Brian, Chris, Dave, Geoff, Rod, the new Charlotte reps: Adam Dantzscher, Will Patten, Jeff Tobrocke. Also Craig Meyerson discussing his C&C 115 rating.


1) Review J109 – Confirmed Base rating of 72 and corrected rating of 66 with big jib and chute
2) Review J92S – wait till 2007 PHRF book is published
3) Database
a. Rod has graciously volunteered to maintain
b. Online database will keep all boats. Non active boats will have the owners deleted from the listing to signify
c. Only active racing boats will be entered into US Sailing Phrf Book at the end of the year.
d. PHRF Bylaws – located two site LCYC and MBBC/phrf. They should be consolidated. Geoff will look into that
4) J92 Rating of 105 is changed to J92 ODR of 105
5) J27 Eerie Mist is discussed. Base rating is changed to 126 and corrected rating stays unchanged at 120
6) Tartan 34 Discussion – Many different versions of Tartan 34 were produced with different keels and rig configurations. Adam volunteered to do some more research and report back.
7) After listening to Craig Meyerson present his opinion on his C&C115 rating, we decided to wait till 2007 PHRF book is published
8) Local PHRF Reps should be rating boats and not the central office
9) Email Rating Exchanges – Discussions should include local scorer in the email replies to keep them informed of rating changes.
10) J100 - The ability to use both an asymmetrical and symmetrical spinnaker without penalty needs further research.
11) Colgate 26 – Confirmed previous rating of 162
12) Beneteau 36.7 – Confirm base rating of 78 with adjusted rating of 75 for masthead spinnaker
13) Sailing with both Asym & Sym penalty discussion - Chris Duly has volunteered to do more research in the ambiguities of our bylaws concerning this matter.
14) J105 – Discussion of ODR and PHRF ratings.
e. ODR rating (jib & 89m chute) is currently 90
f. LCPHRF rates Genoa and 110m chute at 81 and Genoa and 89m chute at 84
g. Rod Johnstone suggests Genoa and 89m chute at 81
h. After discussion with previous J105 owners, group decided to keep current system and not to follow Rod J’s recommendation.
15) Open 5.0 – More research should be done on where this boat fits in
16) Suggestion to append bylaws to reflect the current methodology that is used by group
i. Comparison with ratings at comparable PHRF locations
j. Relation to comparable boats
k. Consult rating at JBoats website if a JBoat
l. Group consultation
17) Suggestion to hold open PHRF meetings was denied
18) Beneteau 45.3 - Provisional rating of 66 was changed to 63 after examination of PHRF book. Rating form submitted but it was misplaced. Waiting replacement for to finalize rating.
19) Pearson Flyer – Investigate reason for large rating difference between two LCYC Flyers, Pas de Deux and Lightning.
