Edward Guild 10846 " Two Boys"

"Two Boys" was acquired in 1998 for $500 in "neglected" condition. It is a 1968 Jack Helms Fiberglass Lightning with trailer, Aluminum Mast, Two sets of Sails, and two spinnakers. It required a major overhaul which it got in 98/99.

I grew up spending summers in Keeler's Bay with FOUR Wooden Lightnings moored along Kibbe Point. Sailed a 1968 vintage "Old Town" Canoe for 30 years before getting the Lightning. Canoe is still sailing with us in Keeler's Bay.  My immediate neighbors sail "Flying Scotts."

I am teaching my wife/kids to sail and expect to teach Sailing Merit Badge to my son's Boy Scout Troop.

Kathy Manning 11754 "Rite of Passage"

After 20 years of sailing, 13 years of racing, certified sailing instructor, and various cruising experiences in Virgin Islands etc, Kathy bought her Lightning in August 2000.  Her regular crew was Marta Goodwin and Anne Laramee.

David Little 13156 "Blue Storm"

We purchased our Lightning in 2000 from Stan White, who built the boat. As a family, we enjoy day-sailing and occasional racing (usual crew is David, Eric,'84, and Matt, '86). David's sailing background includes junior sailing at MBBC in the late 50's and early 60's, college sailing at Harvard in the late 60's and early 70's, and a variety of small sailboats and racer-cruisers in the 70's and 80's

Karl and Erik Johnson 14056 "KarlErik&Kate

Karl and Erik got their boat from Fleet 301's honorary member Ray Harrington in the fall of 1999. They have been on a high learning curve since that point. They finished 4th in the NA's Junior Class in 2001, qualifying for the Jr. Worlds, and won US SAILING's triple handed championship (Sear Cup) in Brick NJ in September. They enter Dartmouth in the fall of 2002.

The Gardner's 15237 "HOT Flash"

Mark, Lynn & Bretton bought their first boat (14050) in the spring of '98 as a family affair! Bretton took over the boat in 2000. Mark "acquired" an Inter Mountain hull and an old Allen deck in November 2005 from Ray Harrington. They also purchased 11331, an older Allen which they are using for a parts and pieces boat to finish the project.

Their goal is to have "HOT Flash" ready for the 2005 season. All the pieces are there... just has to assemble them!

Ed Ziemer 14297 "Zoom"

Ed started sailing in 1953 on the lower Hudson River and then joined MBBC in1968 after moving north. "I bought Zoom in 88 to replace #12967. Except for this year (motor trouble), I alternate one design racing with Conference racing on Carina (C&C Redwing 30). I've had a number of different crew over these many years."

Robert and Lea Ann Smith 14438 "RobertYLea"

When Robert met Lea Ann in 1987, he was working for Barient winches in Santa Ana, CA. They did lots of PHRF racing on the CA coast. When they moved east, they wanted to race a boat of their own. "The Lightning fleet at MBBC seemed pretty active, so we bought # 14438 to see if we'd like it. We do."

Dick Fastiggi 14480 "Ciao"

Dick bought Ciao new in 1991, having previously owned #6308 and 11560. Dick's two son, Bill and Rick both sail Lightnings.

Todd Cox 14520 "Hare-brained Idea".

Lightnin sailin been veery good to me!

wpeB.jpg (2914 bytes)The Brush's 14680 "Wild Goose"

Don grew up on Lake Dunmore in the 1960's and has been sailing a Lightning ever since. Donwon the New England Districts in 1996.
His daughter, Kate began racing a Lightning with Kurt Kling in 1998. We expect the the Brush's winning ways will be kept going for many years.
Don has trained several of the Jr racers over the years, including, Andy Horton, Sean Carrol, Erik and Karl Johnson, Bretton Gardner and his daugher, Kate Brush...

Dave Gorman 14905

Dave bought his first Lightning in 1994. His goal was to sharpen his skill for the J-35 program. Dave won the J-35 Nationals in 1997, parked the big "J" in the boat yard and bought another Lightning "just in case he needed a spare". Dave races his Lightning every weekend throughout the summer. Dave is also races in Montreal at the Royal St. Lawrence YC.

Janice Lange 14876 "Southern Cross"wpeF.jpg (5628 bytes)

Janice is the only US Sailing Judge on Lake Champlain. She is the present Master (Commodore) of the Malletts Bay Boat Club and is very active in the fleet. This is Janice's third Lightning. Her previous boat was rear-ended and destroyed on the way to a regatta in the fall of 1997.
When not sailing her Lightning, Janice spends time on her Tanzer 22 "Windsong".

Patrick Zachary and Kika Bronger 14972 "The-new-un"

Patrick and Kika's first Lightning weighed in just a little less than the hull number... 9875????. Their second boat, 13888, "What Now" served them well. Their newest adventure should be a real threat!

Bill Dutcher 14958 "Scallywag"

Having crewed on a Lightning in college, Bill squandered the next few decades racing motorcycles and windsurfers.  In Jan 2001, he bought Bill Fastiggi's #14958 and sailed primarily with son Christian and friend Will Boericke, but with some MBBC series help from Jen Parot and others.  "Scallywag" won the 2001 MBBC Midweek Overall Series and Fall Sunday Series, and placed 9th in the NA's President's Cup."Our first year's been a great learning experience and a lot of fun.  Can't wait for next year."

Bill Fastiggi 15058 "Danger Kitty"

As a wee lad, Bill crewed at MBBC for his dad, Dick and mom Pat and later with brother Rick.  Now, decades later, his ace team mate and partner Suzy Coburn sails with him pretty much anytime he leaves the dock!  Bill raced on the Kings Point National Champion Collegiate sailing team,  won the 2000 Pan Ams in Lightnings with Andy Horton and Heather Rowe, and nabbed 2nd in the 2000 NAs, among his many accomplishments.  For the past 16 years he's been with Shore Sails.

wpe9.jpg (6599 bytes)Andy Horton 15089 "Still Thinking"

Andy Horton has been sailing Lightning's since 1993. He finished 3rd at the NA's in 1997 and won the New New England Districts in 1998. He won1994 ISSA National Team Racing Championship while at Hobart College, and won a gold medal at the 1999 Pan Am Games(Along with crew Bill Fastiggi and Heather Rowe, both from Fleet 301) He also finished 1st in the NA's in '99
Andy may very well be one of the best sailors in the country, and we're as proud as hell about his accomplishments! Go Andy!

Heather Rowe and Tim Ambrose 15060 "Crunch Time"

They finally took the big step... they bought a Lightning... Heather won the Women's North American Championship in 2001 on her first try!
